So far my life has consisted of a charmed childhood and then trying desperately to create unforgettable memories for my own four children. I was married at age nineteen and quickly had my first baby at the ripe old age of twenty. I was so young and completely unprepared for motherhood. I'm much like a man when it comes to reading manuals so if the baby came with one I wouldn't have read it anyways. I did the very best that I could and now that all four of them are grown I look back and wish I had done more. The one thing that I can say I did correctly was Christmas. We had spectacular Christmases!
To all of you new mothers out there, the saying “they grow up so fast” is not a cliché. Days can seem long, but years will go by so fast it will give you whiplash. It is way too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and forget to just have fun with your little ones. Take the time to enjoy every minute even when you are at your most frustrated. Because in a blink of an eye those little baby birds will fly away from your nest to make their own lives, their own families, and their own memories.
Don’t worry, they will circle back home like vultures when they want something! And it will feel absolutely wonderful that you are still needed.
